Bonjour - Delivery of radioactive waste

This morning (5th March 2012) Friends of the Earths- ACE & Yellow cake road collectives, delivered a barrel of radioactive waste to Martin Ferguson's electoral office in Preston. The stunt was a response to the Federal Governments lack of community consultation & lack of ability to have an open transparent national discussion about the safe storage of the nations radioactive waste. In 2014-2015 Australia is due to receive back spent fuel rods from France, that have been sent for processing. The Federal Government is trying to push a National Interim storage facility at Muckaty in the Northern Territory & throw a measley $10 million at the Territory Government for allowing a site to host the nations most toxic waste. On Feb 25th marked the 2 year anniversary of the commonwealth radioactive management act being repealed & that National radioactive waste management Bill (NRWM) being put forward. The Federal Government not only doesn't have a secure site, it has no current legislation in place. It is expected the NRWM Bill will be passed by the senate on the 13/03/2012
