Canberra banner drops demand sovereignty.

A group of aboriginal rights activists last night dropped a number of banners around the Civic in the nation's capital. One reading '(AUSTRALIA - crossed out) INVASION DAY. SOVEREIGNTY NEVER CEDED" was hung over the pedestrian bridge on Alinga St. Numbers 21-23 and 25 London Cct, across from the Department of Public Prosecutions, had banners which read, respectively, "224 YEARS OF OCCUPATION, 224 YEARS OF RESISTANCE" and "STOLEN LAND".

These actions follow on the heels of worldwide publicity after aboriginal activists frightened the security teams for the heads of both major Australian political party heads into running ungracefully from a lunch held near the aptly named 'Pork Barrel Cafe'.

Angry, nonviolent protest marches have punctuated both days since the national holiday on January 26th, and hint at the tensions bubbling behind the thin veneer of contentment represented by rich, 'respectable' aboriginal people such as Warren Mundine, who went as far as to suggest protesters should be charged after Thursday's march.

The amongst other things, the protests have been asking for recognition of sovereignty, an end to the ongoing destruction of traditional culture through goverment policies such as the NT intervention, and action to stop the unacceptably high rates of incarceration of indigenous people in Australia.

What about the burning of the Australian flag are you trying to hide that one? Hope you feel ashamed of yourselves, because you went too far and lost a lot of support for that error of judgement, you have lost any sympathy I had for your cause I wash my hands of you from here on in.

Do you commenters even understand the troubles these people are going through? And the threats to the lands and their lack of rights? Think back to the protests you heard of in London last year? In a country with a similar culture to yourself. This protest was over miniscule issues, yet caused much devastation. These Aboriginal activists are fuelling their views and values in relatively peaceful protest. The news broadcasters distort the truth. I urge you to think before you agree with what you see and hear.
