Byron Bay Peace Party

The Byron Peace Party to mark International Day of Peace on Wed 21st September saw people gather at the Peace Pole for a picnic and peace pow wow. The theme of peace was highlighted by the Israeli and Palestinian flags flying side by side with the rainbow peace flags and a sign that read "Another World Is Possible".

The sunset Peace Concert - featuring Shai Shriki (Israel), Gulami Yesildal (Turkey) and Laura Targett (UK) - was another symbol of unity through music and culture.

MC Gina Lakosta stressed the power of forgiveness in creating healing on the journey to peace, both individual and planetary.

Other highlights of the evening included a cranking set by Rhythm Konnection, who were joined by the sunset drumming crew; Mookx Hanley's anthemic peace songs; a guest appearance by Mozambiquean artist Kobya, accompanied by Brazillian percussionist Luiz; and Dj Leif Illuvatar.

Special thanks to all the volunteers who helped set this day up, especially Margeaux Marshall and the peace crew, Mike Mizzi for lights and Juan Salvador for help with the PA. Thanks to Byron Hire for providing the generator to power the event.

'May there be peace on earth and may it begin with me'
