Womad EARTH STATION is an exciting new event, celebrating a fusion of arts and sustainability, to be held at Long Gully in Belair National Park, Adelaide, from 21-23 October 2011.

Womad EARTH STATION is a unique companion event to the WOMADelaide festival, which will bring together an international performance program and an engaging series of forums and discussion panels to exchange ideas and concerns for sustainable life on our planet.

There will be visual displays, organic and sustainable food stalls onsite as well as The Market - a place to discover the practical side to sustainability, the environment and indulge in ethical retail therapy. The site will also incorporate a campground, allowing up to 1,200 festival attendees to camp onsite over the three days.

The highlight of the music and arts program will be the world-renowned Kronos Quartet presenting SUN RINGS, a visually spectacular musical odyssey into deep space, written by Terry Riley and commissioned by NASA. Joining The Kronos Quartet will be a highly distinguished and respected field of speakers and musical artists including:

- Africa’s Toumani Diabaté, one of the world’s great virtuosos and two-time Grammy winner - maestro of West Africa’s ‘harp’ the kora.
- US geology professor Steve Pekar, who investigates past climate and oceanographic changes from 16- 45 million years ago - Australia's leading exponents of roots reggae and dancehall music, Mista Savona.
- Acclaimed Australian comic and green activist, Rod Quantock
- Chief of Staff for former Vice President Al Gore, Roy Neel
- Chinese-born and US-based, internationally-renowned master of the pipa, Wu Man.
- Co-directors of the Sydney Theatre Company and environmental activists, Cate Blanchett & Andrew Upton
