The situation in Sri Lanka after the massive military onslaught in May 2009 has left the Tamil community in despair and utmost grief. It has been reported that during the last few days of the onslaught, more than 30,000 civilians were killed. Several hundred thousand innocent civilians (including 80 000 children) who fled the conflict areas are now being forcibly held in internment camps and continue to be traumatised as they seek to survive the cruelty being perpratrated against them which includes unlawful incarceration, starvation, thirst, rape, homelessness, denial of basic medicines and medical treatment, more importantly, loss of dignity and self-esteem and deprivation of justice.
The Australian Tamils Interfaith Committee, a group of concerned Australian Tamils of different religious allegiances, cordially invites you to join us for a multi faith meeting of prayers for hope, justice and unity for the Tamils of Sri Lanka.
Date: Saturday 25th July 2009
Time: From 1.45 pm to 4.00 pm
Venue: St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Cnr Gisborne Street & Cathedral Place, East Melbourne
We hope the prayers for healing and restoring faith will help salvage the tens of thousands of grief stricken families towards communal Hope and Unity. We kindly request you to empathise and walk with us during this dark period in the history of the Tamils in Sri Lanka .
