STOP THE DEPORTATIONS!
*REFUGEE RIGHTS ACTION NETWORK EMERGENCY ACTION STARTING 5PM SUNDAY 11 DECEMBER AT PERTH DETENTION CENTRE (PERTH DOMESTIC AIRPORT)*

Two Sri Lankan men are to be forcibly deported with the first person to be deported on December 12 and the other on December 13 to Sri Lanka - where they fear for their lives. They believe this will have implications for their families and anyone who may support them once back in Sri Lanka.

December 10 was ruled out in terms of deporting them - as it is (United Nations) HUMAN RIGHTS DAY!

Their deportation smacks of Kafka like stuff - the worst of some of the 50s and 60s are back - far too many times during this last decade.

They were at Curtin Detention Centre and have been relocated to Perth Airport Immigration Detention Centre so they can be bundled out of Australia to Sri Lanka.

At this time there are various efforts being coordinated to prevail a last minute injunction preventing this inhumanity, and another stain of human rights abuses by the Australian government.

We are visiting them and they are frightened and anxiety ridden and do not understand why the Australian government is sending them back. Neither do we.

The racism must stop, the inhumanity must stop. Forcible deportation is immoral and unlawful - and where the laws of our nation support it then we must work to change these laws. If you, or I, or our children, or anyone we know or care about was in this predicament we would hope for the support of others - we cannot sit idle or lost in the passive - our investiture of faith and goodwill in our governments have long been shattered - let us be there in numbers and know that we have done what we could and maybe saved them and others from deportation - we do not want to someday learn that they lost their lives upon return, as some others already have.

Many will gather at Perth Airport Detention Centre come Sunday - if ever there was a time to bring on the numbers in this necessary vigil this is the time - this is the time to highlight a predicament so vile that the majority of the people will for its end.

Primum Non Nocere - First Do No Harm
