Protest: San Churro workers demand penalty rates! - cancelled

Date and Time:
Sunday, May 22, 2011 -
2:00pm to 4:00pm
Location:
San Churro - Fitzroy 277 Brunswick Street Fitzroy, Australia

THE EVENT WAS CANCELLED BECAUSE THE WORKERS WON!!! SOLIDARITY FOREVER

San Churro is a popular cafe chain employing hundreds of workers and turning over millions of dollars a year. Unfortunately many of the workers are not paid penalty rates even though they consistently work late nights and weekends. San Churro's own collective agreements states that "The Employer shall pay the Employees in accordance with the Award, including penalties, allowances and overtime where applicable."
...
Disappointingly this is not happening. Workers are only paid the base rate even after midnight on weekends!

UNITE represents a number of workers at the Fitzroy store and has demanded that San Churro start sticking to the law. We also want the money they owe the workers to be back paid in full.

Unfortunately San Churro are yet to meet these demands so UNITE has decided to make things a little clearer for management. We will be protesting from 2pm this Sunday outside the Fitzroy store at 277 Brunswick Street Fitzroy.

We will be letting customers and the general public know exactly just how poorly paid the hard workers at San Churro are. We hope you will be able to join us!
