With Nicola Roxon gone, we need the new Attorney-General, Mark Dreyfus, to support the Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Bill through Commonwealth Parliament before September, or the Coalition is most likely to demolish it. If you only sign one electronic petition this year, please make it this one?
As LGBTI people, we have NO protection in Federal law at the moment. The Bill (below) is far from perfect in protecting our rights, but it is better than nothing. If it passes, intact, it will mean that church-run organisations cannot legally discriminate against us as recipients of aged care, even though they CAN legally discriminate against us as employees in aged care, plus as staff or clients/patients in hospitals, schools, childcare, employment agencies, welfare agencies etc etc.
