Don't let this motion slip through - only two days left!

We're very close to protecting our precious native forests from the scourge of subsidised burning for power -- but we've got one last battle left.

As a result of a peculiarity in the way Government regulations work, the motion to allow the burning of our native forests to be classified as creating renewable energy has been sneakily placed on the 'non-controversial' list. That means that unless the Government decide to force a vote, within days this back-door change in renewable energy policy could sneak through Parliament without there even being a vote!

Your local Labor MP is likely to be in their electorate office right now and they've got the power to lobby their peers to prioritise this vote before it's too late. We can't let this go through without a democratic vote. Can you contact your local MP and urge them to make sure this is the number 1 issue in Parliament when it returns on Monday?

In July last year, the historic multi-party climate agreement was passed by Labor, the Greens and the Independents, including a hard-won provision to remove support for the burning of native-forests being classified as renewable energy. So far GetUp members have contacted Independent MPs, donated to TV ads that have demonstrated huge public support and signed a massive petition. Together we've secured the votes of many of our political representatives, but this support is only useful if we can convince the Government to ensure the House of Representatives votes on the matter first thing next week.

We've got just 2 days to make sure the government prioritises this issue and brings it on for a vote first thing Monday. Can you contact your Labor MP or Senator now to let them know that you'd like them to stand up for our forests?

Already 33,482 GetUp members have signed a petition opposing Rob Oakeshott's  attempts to support the powerful native forest logging industry. Now its up to us and our partners to ensure we see this through.

Thanks for continuing your support,

The GetUp team.

PS - Wondering why we've got limited time? As a result of Rob Oakeshott's motion being listed as 'non-controversial', it will automatically pass the Parliament without a vote unless the Government decides to use its numbers in the Parliament to overrule this outcome. That's why its so crucial we let the Government know that this has to be a real priority. http://www.getup.org.au/burning-forests
