The Latin American Solidarity Network (LASNET)
International Indigenous Gathering
April 9-10 2010 Alice Springs
In 2008 LASNET hosted an International Indigenous Gathering at CERES Environment Park in Melbourne. This was attended by Indigenous activists from all over Australia, Latin America, West Papua and Aotearoa and non-indigenous supporters. This gathering provided an opportunity for Indigenous people to share stories of their struggles together with strategies for change.
2010 will be the Year of Indigenous People and to celebrate and honour the struggles of Indigenous
people we have been approached by Indigenous groups to hold another International Indigenous Gathering in Alice Springs. We have chosen to hold the gathering in Alice Springs in solidarity with those communities in the Northern Territory that are suffering discrimination and disadvantage through the draconian measures of the Northern Territory Intervention
The gathering will bring together Indigenous activists from all over Australia and the world to discuss their common struggles. It will also provide a unique opportunity for non-indigenous activists to learn about these struggles and how best to respectfully support them. This gathering has been endorsed by many Indigenous activists, both in the Northern Territory and in Victoria, and our planning will be conducted in close consultation with them.
Become involved in building this gathering.
