Occupy Adelaide began occupying Hindmarsh Square two days ago. Since then they have been meeting and peacefully protesting as part of the Global Occupy movement(ABC report. However repeating the repression that has occured in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane the Adelaide City Council has issued the camp with an eviction notice today. The following message was posted on the Adelaide Occupy Adelaide Facebook Page
"People of Adelaide, your right to peacefully assemble is under threat. The Adelaide City Council has served every tent at Occupy Adelaide with a NOTICE TO STOP CAMPING. Adelaide's camp is peaceful, clean and is serviced by public toilets within 50m of the camp. People might take the council a little more seriously if they put effort into finding a bed for every homeless person who "camps" out every night in Adelaide, rather than trying to shut down a peaceful occupation.
People hare being encouraged to go to the GA tonight(Monday night) at 7PM.
