It's time, Sydney!

POC THE MIC SYDNEY is a performance night that will shake up the inner west for one night only. This night will feature varied artistic expressions and musical styles such as spoken word, hip hop, acoustic music, pop, burlesque, pole dancing and performance poetry. The event's blend of artists will cover a wide range of themes from liberation to empowerment to living in Sydney to war to racism.

POC THE MIC gives a platform to racially marginalised voices, and is a creative and inspirational antidote to racism. Melbourne was where POC THE MIC was first staged (twice) and became the meeting place of most of the POC THE MIC SYDNEY organisers. During the early hours of a chilly Monday, organisers Lia Qian, Ben Beracasa, Texta Queen, Maddee Clark and Claire Nemorin met over a campfire. The organisers discussed the possibility of a POC THE MIC SYDNEY. An essential member of the organising crew, Sonia Tsai soon came on board.

An amazing array of performers will knead the boards of the Red Rattler stage. 2010 Sydneyvision song contest and 2007 national Malaysian King of Cool talent quest winner, Dyan Tai will play an extended set on his keytar. The hip hop artist who formerly shared the stage with Public Enemy, L-FRESH also known as The LION will get the audience on their feet with his rhymes. Soul Beats?s spoken word and hip hop will move and entertain; as will the multi-talented Uma Kali-Shakti?s performance poetry and Bryan Andys spoken word pieces.

Other just as significant talents are Sydney singer-songwriter Camille Bernardino, ukulele musician Farida Iqbal, pole dancer Matty Shields, performance artist Creatrix Tiara, spoken word and hip hop artist Clandestine Voice, rapper and poet KHaLil 4 ReeL, spoken word artist and poet Harsh Browns, spoken word artist Mini Faguette, spoken word and hip hop artist Lia Incognita, and singer/performer Lupo.

Being held as part of the radical sex, gender and sexuality festival CAMP BETTY, POC THE MIC SYDNEY is here! So come join us. POC THE MIC is an independent alternative to the dearth of brown and black faces in the Australian media and popular culture. The organisers of POC THE MIC SYDNEY

envision a future free of racism?and will build anti-racist community through creativity until that day comes.
