Financial crisis film screening: 'Plunder' & 'The Shock Doctrine'

Date and Time:
Saturday, October 23, 2010 -
6:00pm to 8:30pm
Location:
Resistance Centre 23 Abercrombie St, Chippendale Sydney, Australia

PLUNDER is a hard-hitting investigative film by former CNN producer Danny Schechter. He explores how the financial crisis was built on the biggest white-collar crime in history. To tell this story Schechter speaks with bankers, respected economists, insider experts, top journalists including Paul Krugman, and even a convicted white-collar criminal, Sam Antar, who blows the whistle on intentionally dishonest practices. The screening will be preceded by THE SHOCK DOCTRINE, a hard-hitting short film centring on 'disaster capitalism' and based on Naomi Klein's book of the same name. Klein reveals how capitalism has consistently been forced upon disaster-shocked people. It can be seen how the shock of the global financial crisis has been used to force austerity cuts on the poor. $10 waged, $6 unwaged. A cheap, delicious dinner will be available from 6pm.
