If you are looking through European history for an analogy to what was done to the Australian Aborigines or the American First Nations, this cannot be found in the last centuries but only in the last millenia. Although the African-Eurasian landmass had been devastated by empires for so long, the European experience is the first instance of an empire which was not defeated by another empire (e. g. when the Jews came out of Bablyonian captivity) but by indigenous people. However it took so long, and its death struggle was so bad, that in the process these indigenous people lost all memory of what they had been. What can be reconstructed is that after the Roman empire had destroyed the Jewish temple, the next thing it did was a security fence through the sacred forests in the heartlands of the European peninsula, and the later generations that finally overran it were thereafter defeated by corrupt Elders who had been absorbed by the former empire's internal opposition into a sort of parallel culture. The resulting warlord rule was so bad that not only it served as a prototype model for the uniting force that would then emerge to roll up Europe's planetary neighbourhood, it also would poison the Jewish roots which had grown into the empire's dissident underground as it turned against them. It is at this point where a contrarian travesty of an attempt to restore the collective indigenous memory was able to mutate into the Holocaust, and the prototype model it has now become in the neighbourhood. From these results, it seems that the root cause of the cultural memory loss was that an intentional relief from an experience of abuse spiraled out into collateral amnesia due to ongoing abuse. When indigenous people elsewhere in the world have to face this phenomenon today it devastates virgin lands at a considerably higher throughput, leaving even less opportunities to understand its forensics than in European history.
