9 Jun 15: "Coroner Terry Ryan handed down the findings of an inquest into the separate deaths of two 16-year-old boys in Mackay in north Queensland. He found the Indigenous teenagers, who cannot be named, both hanged themselves in 2008 and no other person was involved in their deaths. The inquest findings revealed that in Queensland, the average yearly suicide rate for young Indigenous Australians was more than six times higher than that for non-Indigenous young people. ... Early intervention opportunities missed by child safety officers ... " By Maria Hatzakis, an ABC journalist based in Brisbane. She reports for ABC radio, television, online news and current affairs.

10 Jun 15: "Specific strategies are needed to address the disproportionate suicide rate of indigenous youth, Queensland's coroner has recommended. ... Mr Ryan [Coroner Terry Ryan] recommended the Queensland Suicide Prevention Action plan include specific strategies aimed at addressing the disproportionate suicide rate of indigenous youth. He also recommended the Mackay community's effective response to the suicide cluster, which resulted in a greater co-ordination of prevention services, be considered for the action plan." Source: AAP
