Free west Papua

What do you mean by freedom for West Papua? Where is it ? These are common responses by average Australians to a question “do you support freedom for West Papua”.

West Papua was occupied by Indonesia after the Dutch left in the 1960s. In a village in West Papua, a young Benny Wenda, watched as Indonesian military forced his aunt (and others) to wash herself by the river ‘ to clean herself up’ before she was raped. she had her baby ripped from her arms and thrown to the ground before she, was raped.. They both died.

And the violence continues – 1.1 West Papuans have been murdered every hour since the early 1960s. In the time it takes this meeting to conclude, 3 west Papuans will have been killed by Indonesia.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, declared recently that the genocide in West Papua should stop. he chose to use the Australian press for his announcement. Did we hear about it? No.

stories such as ISILs oppression, the looming execution of two reformed Australian drug runners in Indonesia, and the dark clouds hanging over Rugby League and Rugby union with player indiscretions are more important.

It isnt important to our elected representatives, with Tony Abbott declaring, “that people who expose the Genocide and political fraud in West Papua are not welcome in Australia.  The Australian government actively finances and trains the DENSUS 88 death squad that is used to torture and kill West Papuans

Why don’t Australians do something about this ?

Who knows? Maybe the following will help explain it

“Indonesia is the 4th biggest country in the world, the third biggest democratic country, ranked 12 in the world in terms of military size where Australia is ranked13th . Are we frightened of them ?

I tried to get on talkback radio, to bring the issue of genocide in West Papua up. Got the same response every time, with at least 3 talkback radio shock jocks. We don’t want to talk about west Papua, we only cover local issues.

The Grasberg mine, is owned by US company Freeport-McMoRan . They pay Indonesian military for security. You know, kill any protesters. Freeport is Indonesia's biggest taxpayer.

Freeport dumps over 238,000 tonnes of toxic waste into the local river system EVERY DAY. Which eventually gets dispersed into the ocean, just off Australia.

Some more information to be alarmed about

In 1952 the content of Melanesians in that part of the island was 98%. Right now it’s down to 48%.

Over three quarters of a million people from Java and Sulawesi  have resettled in West Papua under the indonesian government's Transmigration program. Indonesian muslim schools regularly kidnap west Papuan children and take them to java to be indoctrinated in the muslim way. Genocide by a different name. Kill 500,000 and bring in 750,000. Indoctrinate the kids

Conclusion

So, what can we do about it?

Well, we could do what the Wharfies did just after the second world war. Strike, refuse to help the Dutch, support Indonesia in its quest for Independence from the Dutch, do what the Australian government did just after the second world war, and support Indonesia for its struggle for independence from the dutch, except this time do it for west papua.

Or maybe, we could help West Papua as Australia helped Malaysia during the time of confrontasi when Australian army units fought Indonesian army units during the 1960s, when President Sukarno declared that he would ‘gobble Malaysia raw.’ This cost the lives of 590 Indonesians and 114 Commonwealth soldiers. The Indonesians lost. We won.

as a minimum write to your local member, ring up and insist on being able to talk about the issue on talkback radio, join facebook, Or, agree to form a political party, Or, just hang our heads in shame, while Australia breaks its agreements to conventions which it has signed up to, to do everything to prevent genocide, and for which there is an act of parliament to do this.
