On March 5th, we will be commemorating the life and work of Hugo Chavez - the former President of Venezuela and the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution...
Venezuela is currently living through one of the most difficult times in its modern history - sanctioned by the United States, experiencing severe shortages of basic products and spiraling inflation, mismanagement, suffering from the massive drop in oil prices, as well as non-stop relentless attacks by the mainstream media across the entire world. The scenario is greatly reminiscent for September 1973 in Chile, before the overthrow of President Salvador Allende...
Nevertheless, the government of Nicolas Maduro, alongside the regional blocks of UNASUR and CELAC, are standing defiant in the face of these challenges and have vowed to defend the gains made by the Revolution throughout all these years.
Join us for a Forum-Film that will include Solidarity brigade participants, speakers from the Latin American Community as well as representatives of the trade union movement in Australia.
We will commence with a screening of "Film: Viva Venezuela!: Fighting for Socialism", followed by a broad panel featuring:
-Kevin Bracken, the Victorian Secretary of MUA
-Martin Zapata, a former researcher and activist in the Evo Morales government in Bolivia
-Danesh Chako - recently returned from a solidarity brigade in Venezuela, and a visit to Ecuador
-Andrew Irving - Communist Party of Australia
-A speaker from LASNET and the Chile Solidarity Campaign
Event hosted by Latin America Solidarity Network (LASNET) and the Australia-Venezuela Solidarity Network (AVSN)
