Lets get this happening, Geelong! We'll be rallying on the 30th of August, 2014 (as not to clash with the Melbourne march happening on the 31st) to coincide with the renewed national effort.
The finer details are still being decided upon (such as to whether we'll be marching through the CBD or not), and we invite you all to make suggestions. On the day, we will be looking to rally at Johnstone Park, which should be able to accommodate a reasonable number of people.
In summary, the main issue we will be hoping to raise awareness of with this rally is the Melbourne-centric nature of decisions made by state and federal governments with little regard of their implications on the Geelong region - things such as TAFE cuts, heath cuts, lack of jobs investment in Geelong and other regional areas, the proposed C300 High-Rise Rezonings, among others.
Invite your friends! Lets make this big and tell all levels of government; state, federal and local, that Geelong WON'T be taken for granted, as it has been for so long. It is time to make our voices heard.
GUEST SPEAKERS AT THE RALLY WILL INCLUDE:
- Christine Couzens - State Labor candidate for Geelong.
- Greg Lacey - State Greens candidate for Lara.
- Lisa Ashdowne - State Greens candidate for South Barwon.
- Lloyd Davies - State Greens upper house candidate (Western Victoria.)
As well as potentially other local candidates and MPs, who will be listed above once they get back to us.
NOTE: This is being billed as a family-friendly rally. So please keep any offensive signage at home and such signage doesn't do the cause any good anyway.
