South African Dinner and Film Screening
Behind the Rainbow
With the South African 2009 presidential election as a backdrop, award-winning filmmaker Jihan El-Tahri explores the evolution of the African National Congress (ANC) from liberation movement to ruling party.
In interviews, ANC leaders past and present examine the divisions over ideology and economic policy that have replaced the euphoria surrounding Nelson Mandela’s release from prison in 1992. They also analyse why harsh racial inequalities, poverty and unemployment persist.
The film provides important insights into what it will take to achieve real racial equality and revolutionary change.
