Great success and next steps on Bangladesh factory safety

Oxfam supporters have played a critical role in support of our work to improve safety in Bangladeshi garment factories by encouraging some of Australia’s biggest clothing brands to sign the Bangladesh Fire and Safety Accord.

Recently, Specialty Fashion Group (who own Katies, Millers and City Chic among other labels) was the latest Australian company to join Kmart, Target, Cotton On and Forever New in signing the Accord.

This is great news; building on years of campaign work by Oxfam supporters like you!

But three months after the Rana Plaza collapse, there are still many Australian clothing companies that need your encouragement to sign up and ensure safety in Bangladesh clothing factories.

Sign the new petition asking Australian brands not to delay in protecting worker's safety

Sign the new Bangladesh factory safety petition we are sending to The Just Group (Just Jeans, Jay Jays), Best and Less, Rivers and Pacific Brands (Bonds, Berlei) and Big W.

Once you have signed, we also give you the option to write a personalised message on the each company’s Facebook page; publicly reinforcing your message to them.

Unfortunately, despite thousands of messages Big W (Woolworths) is still holding out. So we particularly encourage you to write directly on their Facebook page asking them to sign the Accord immediately.

Look out for further updates in the coming weeks and thank you very much for your ongoing support for garment workers in Bangladesh.
