The Tipsy Rabbit: on music

Are you a lover of words and ideas but find panel discussions a little dry? Then grab a glass and join in the inaugural Tipsy Rabbit night Wednesday 10 April, doors open 7pm for 7.30pm start at the Red Rattler in Marrickville. The series of panel discussions kicks off with a theme close to our hearts: music.

To share their love of song writing and writing about songs we welcome to The Tipsy Rabbit couch:

Caitlin Park (@Caitlin_Park), the winner of the 2012 Spirit of Youth Award (SOYA), Caitlin writes and performs folktronica, taking folk and electro-acoustics to new heights with her abstract composition, sampling and film nostalgia.

Caitlin’s fascination with language was nourished by a part-time post at a cult video store around the corner from her family home. This culminated in a piece of music based on the murder plot scene in Hitchcock’s Dial M For Murder – her reverse soundtrack. Then, songs that were written for short films began to take shape as folk snapshots riddled with sound effects and dialogue taken from 1940/50s films.

Richard Cartwright (@richardinyrmind), the psychedelic and mystical songwriter from the Richard in Your Mind, one of Australia’s most exceptional live bands and stalwarts of the Sydney indie scene. “Richard Cartwright’s eccentric demeanour, his quaint banter, his lyrics, and the joyous absurdity of the band’s pop songs are overwhelmingly effective” – Shaun Prescott, MESS AND NOISE

Sevana Ohandjanian (@IchbinSev), bringing a wealth of experience to what is arguably the coolest job in the world, Sevana has recently returned from a music journo stint in Berlin and is currently writing for Drum Media (Street Press Australia). She’s written articles and reviews for publications including news.com.au, Sydney Morning Herald, Vibewire and Vertigo. Most recently, she chronicled a year living in Berlin for Skydreams and reported on international music events for themusic.com.au. She can be found on the internet as a footnote on The Temper Trap’s Wikipedia, where her review of their record was misinterpreted as positive. She has a blog named Professional Losers.
