We are honored to announce that Malalai Joya, a member of the previous Afghan parliament, and an outspoken critic of warlords of all persuasions will address Melbourne’s monthly Afghanistan vigil. Malalai Joya is a leader and activist for democracy, human and women's rights in Afghanistan.
From 3.50pm you can surreptitiously collect a red sign 'no more causalities in Afghanistan'. At 4pm people will spontaneously drop to the ground in the Flinders St vicinity, holding these signs. After a minute or so, Malalai will begin to address the crowd, and the bigger banners will be unfurled.
We invite you to stay lying down for the duration of her address if you feel comfortable. There will also be banners to hold during the vigil, and our usual fliers to distribute.
Chip Henriss, an Australian military veteran from Standfast (http://stand-fast.webs.com/) will also speak, with others to be announced.
