Frack Free WA Rally and Community Forum

In the lead up to the federal election, Lock the Gate Alliance have announced a National Week of Action Against Unconventional Gas Mining and Exploration, and anti-fracking groups throughout Australia have organised events in an effort to make this issue one of critical importance to voters.

No Fracking WAy Perth will hold a rally and community forum on the 17th of August in Kings Square, Fremantle.

Senator Scott Ludlam will speak at the rally which will commence at 1pm, this will be followed by a march through Fremantle with Junkadelic leading the way.

Immediately after the march a community forum will take place in the Reception Room above Fremantle Town Hall at 2pm.

Speakers at the community forum include; Southwest farmer Felicity Haynes, from the recently victorious campaign against coal mining in Margaret River, a representative from Doctors for the Environment discussing health impacts, Jamie Hanson from the Conservation Council of WA, who will provide an overview of the threats posed by fracking in Western Australia, and Louis Kent from the Fremantle Wind Farm Project who will discuss renewable energy as an alternative. The forum will also hear from “unconventional gas refugee” Brian Monk (Tara, Qld.) via skype, who will discuss land impacts, the deviousness of the industry, and his personal experience and impacts on his family.

The rally is likely to be the largest and most significant demonstration against unconventional gas so far in Western Australia. Media are encouraged to attend.
