New Matilda: Imaginary Spear Outrages Australia. Slap On The Wrist For Hit And Run Death Of Black Child Doesn't
https://newmatilda.com/2015/07/28/imaginary-spear-outrages-australia-sla...
28 Jul 15: "The debates we choose to have say a lot about the state of our nation, in particular its race relations, writes Amy McQuire. Last week, a 23-year-old non-Indigenous man in Darwin walked free after a hit and run that killed a 8-year-old Aboriginal boy – Jack Sultan Page. Michael Alexander, who was also charged and fined for possession of methamphetamine, faced a 10-year maximum jail sentence. Instead he was given six months home detention and an 18-month suspended jail sentence. During the trial, Jack’s family saw the accused’s family for the first time in the court house and were understandably upset. ... " By Amy McQuire, a Darumbul woman from central Queensland. Amy McQuire is the former editor of the National Indigenous Times and Tracker magazine.

NT News: Thousands sign petition calling on NT Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal sentence handed down to Mathew Alexander over hit-and-run causing death of Jack Sultan-Page
http://www.ntnews.com.au/news/northern-territory/thousands-sign-petition...
27 Jul 15: "THOUSANDS of people have urged the NT Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal a "ridiculously light sentence" handed down to a man who pleaded guilty to the hit-and-run that caused the death of Palmerston boy Jack Sultan-Page. Karama resident Julianne Brown started the online Change petition on Thursday. It followed an NT Supreme Court decision to issue Mathew Alexander, 23, with an 18-month suspended jail sentence and six months of home detention for the November 2014 accident. Ms Brown told the NT News she was "outraged" by the "travesty of justice" that had occurred. The petition has received more than 7000 signatures in just five days, with a target of 10,000. ... https://newmatilda.com/2015/07/27/theres-really-simple-way-stop-racist-b...
27 Jul 15: "Stop the game. Don’t start it again until the racists stop. Chris Graham explains. We can debate the booing of Adam Goodes till the cows come home, but it doesn’t really get us anywhere. So in the interests of moving forward, how about we negotiate a deal. Racists, you can boo Adam Goodes all you want, and pretend it’s not racist. The rest of the nation: We'll continue to call it what it is. Racist. And in the meantime, maybe the AFL can pull its finger out and actually do something practical to address the problem. ...
