Tauto Sansbury, Rosalie Kunoth-Monks, Paul Spearim Jr, The Original Peoples Freedom Movement: "Tougher rules" are racially discriminative
Tasmanian Times: http://tasmaniantimes.com/index.php?/pr-article/tougher-rules-are-racial...
10 Dec 14: "Message from Freedom Summit delegates following current government moves to force people in remote communities-most of whom are Aboriginal- to undertake work for the dole for 12 months in order to receives income support: ...
Tougher rules for the Aboriginal communities who will be forced to "work a full year 5 days a week on welfare wages".
The Original Peoples Freedom Movement are diametrically opposed to the punitive and exploitative work; five days a week, 12 months a year, dole scheme proposed by the Abbott Government that racially discriminates against the Original Peoples of Australia.
"This is nothing more than an all too familiar ploy to further assimilate our people through forced removal from their Traditional Homelands. Research from Amnesty International and the Menzies School of Health clearly shows it remains essential to our peoples wellbeing and long-term health that we are to remain in our Traditional Homelands and APY communities, " said Freedom Summit representative Paul Spearim Jnr. ... 10 Dec 14: "The NT government's proposed work-for-the-dole scheme is tantamount to slave labour, Aboriginal traditional owners say. The Original Peoples Freedom Movement (OPFM) says the scheme is punitive and exploitative and will make people living in remote areas work five days a week over 52 weeks to receive the dole. "This is nothing but an outrageous land grab and obscene discriminatory policy that is being only implemented against one people without even the guise of consultation or negotiation," OPFM founder Tauto Sansbury told AAP. "It's a slave labour opportunity."" Neda Vanovac

Greens Senator Rachel Siewert: Greens reject discriminatory work for the dole plans
http://rachel-siewert.greensmps.org.au/content/media-releases/greens-rej...
6 Dec 14: "The Australian Greens have rejected a discriminatory Government plan to make different rules for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in remote communities in order to access income support.
"The Government has waited until after Parliament has finished for the year to announce their plans to force people in remote communities to undertake work for the dole for 12 months a year in order to receive income support," Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues said today.
"The Government is once again ignoring the underlying factors that are contributing to unemployment. It is unjustifiable that this scheme would be so much tougher in remote communities compared to the rest of the country.
"The Minister has admitted that there are 'a lot less jobs available in remote communities' and work for the dole doesn't address that problem.
"The prospect of people working 25 hours a week for Newstart means they will be working for insignificant wages. ... ""

Greens Senator Rachel Siewert: Leaked work for the dole report exposes flawed ideology
http://rachel-siewert.greensmps.org.au/content/media-releases/leaked-wor...
9 Dec 14: "The Australian Greens said today that leaked briefing documents for the Government's work for the dole plans in remote communities proves their approach is underpinned by flawed ideology and is clearly discriminatory.
"The Government's new approach will end in disaster for Aboriginal people and communities. This is an ideological approach not based on evidence and with people being set up to failed and be dumped off income support", Senator Rachel Siewert, Australian Greens spokesperson on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues said today.
"The Government is implementing a discriminatory regime that will subject people to the equivalent of very low wages for 25 hours work a week, with harsh penalties for non-compliance.
"Reports published today containing details of leaked documents shows the Government's condescending language and lack of respect for job seekers. The documents appear to be laced with ideology and the characterisation of unemployed people as undeserving of income support. ... ""

9 Dec 14: "Twelve months working for the dole. That's the new reality faced by job seekers who live in remote and regional Australian communities. Unemployed people will who will have to work 25 hours a week for twelve months to receive the Newstart allowance. The Federal government says this will create real pathways to employment. - Background to Aboriginal Sovereignty Day, Invasion Day, Survival Day and Day of Mourning

Event:  Sun 26 January 2015: various locations in Australia
Sovereignty Day / Invasion Day / Survival Day / Day of Mourning
"Aboriginal people call it ‘Invasion Day’,
‘Day of Mourning’, ‘Survival Day’ or,
since 2006, ‘Aboriginal Sovereignty Day’.
The latter name reflects that all Aboriginal
nations are sovereign and should be united
in the continuous fight for their rights." Creative Spirits
"Australia Day - No time to celebrate:
Australia Day is traditionally the most racist
day of the year for Aboriginal people.
When people celebrate on January 26,
there is no escaping the fact they are celebrating
the day that one race of people invaded another
race of people’s country and took control of
Aboriginal lands and tried to dominate Aboriginal
people. Invasion Day, as it should be called,
celebrates the dispossession of land, culture,
and way of life of Aborigines." Jay McDonald, GLW

"They gathered at the Old Bungalow at Mparntwe
(Alice Springs) from across the continent and for two days
in the centre of this continent, those at the Freedom
Summit spoke of the continuing tragedies and attacks
against their people and of the ways forward. A delegation
of 20 was endorsed by the Freedom Summit to mobilise around
it the First Peoples of this continent to stand up united
and reclaim the "Aboriginal Rights Struggle". In the
meantime, the Federal Government has responded to the
Summit’s organisers with the offer of a meeting.
But on January 26, the delegation will converge on Canberra
– and begin a sit-in right outside Parliament.
Thousands will join them, and in so doing, so will the
world’s press" (The Stringer - Gerry Georgatos 2014)
