Peasant families in particular are suffering the terror of the palm oil industry. (Picture: hondurasdelegation/flickr)
Dear friends of the rainforests,
In Honduras, the population is protesting against the palm oil plantations encroaching on their land. Armed gangs are terrorizing the people at the behest of corporations; dozens have been killed. The ecologically vital wetlands along the Caribbean coast and in the Aguán River valley are being drained for the palm oil monocultures.
Please sign our letter of protest to the government of the Central American country:
40,000 have already taken part in our previous campaign, “Swiss Bank Giant UBS accused of laundering Timber Money”. The Swiss authorities have now responded, and on 29 August, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Berne opened criminal proceedings against UBS.
If you have not signed yet, please help us urge UBS to put an end to its unsavory business relationship with the tropical-timber mafia.
