Citizen Journalism: the practice of independent media makers recording and writing from events on the ground, and broadcasting their work through citizen journalism organisations or selling it for use by the mainstream media broadcasters. It is a growing practice by which independent media producers are able to make money from their work (as opposed to freely uploading it for onsale by Google, Youtube and the like), whilst also making a contribution to the availabilty of media that comes from within events and movements.

Gari Sullivan is a UK citizen journalist who has recently returned from reporting on the conflicts in Syria; at times working as the only Western reporter on the ground in Damascus.

He runs a citizen journalism website brokerage called NoozDesk and is in Australia to give talks on citizen journalism: how it works, what it requires and how it can be done.

Gari will talk in the New International Bookshop on Wednesday November 9 at 6.30 pm.

Entry to the talk is by $2/5 to the shop. Drinks and snacks also available by donation.

All welcome to attend - tell your media-making friends.

This event is part of the New International Bookshop's Underground Talks event series.
