What is Camp Betty?

Camp Betty Sydney is a three-day festival celebrating and unpacking sex, sexuality & gender against a backdrop of radical politics and DIY action; a sequel to the successful festival that rocked Melbourne in 2007. Run on a less-than-shoestring budget, Camp Betty is the product of unpaid community people coming together to create something wonderful.

The festival is all about creating spaces to reflect on queerness, politicising spaces and issues, creating connections between different communities and individuals. And it’s about having fun and making noise and making stuff! It’s open to anyone who is interested in engaging with topics around sex, sexuality, gender and radical politics in a respectful and positive way.

There will panel discussions, workshops, skillshares, performances, parties and other activities going on across the weekend – check the ‘Program’ page on this site for more details. A full program will be published late May.
Venues

Camp Betty will be running across several venues in Sydney’s Inner West (particularly Marrickville and Enmore):

The Red Rattler – Faversham St Marrickville. An Artist Run Initiative (ARI) and not-for-profit community-based venue, the Rattler is Betty Central so you can get registration info here every day, plus come to panels, workshops and parties! The Rattler is a licenced venue and has all sorts of other awesome events running all year round – check out http://redrattler.org/ for details.

Midian – Marrickville. A well set-up warehouse space where we’ll be running workshops, skillshares and panels.

Dirty Shirlows – Marrickville. Another awesome warehouse space where we’ll be running workshops, skillshares and panels; scrummy lunches will be available (by donation) here on Saturday and Sunday.

Plump Gallery - 240 Enmore Road, Enmore. An awesome contemporary art gallery where we’ll be running workshops, skillshares and arty stuff! Check out Plump here for more info on the venue: http://plumpgallery.org/
