Heard about fracking?

Want to know more about controversial plans to extract Coal Seam Gas (CSG) in Victoria?

This May, Beyond Zero Emissions and Friends of the Earth are hosting a screening of the Oscar nominated documentary, “Gasland”. Gasland brilliantly shows one man’s journey to explore the realities of CSG extraction on his doorstep. His journey to scrutinise the shady industry is essential and empowering viewing for anyone who stands to be affected by the procedure. That now includes ALL Victorians.

Historically, fossil-fuel exploration is easier to fight before it starts. Recent bans in Europe prove that there are considerable health and environmental concerns to deem fracking entirely unacceptable for any region that values a quality, secure food and water supply. By joining us for this evening you can educate yourself on the realities of fracking and learn how we can all work together to stop future CSG, coal and tight gas operations in Victoria.

The Victorian government wants more coal – the community wants farmland, clean water and a safe climate.

There is already growing opposition to this industry. “Community groups have formed across the ‘coal belt’ of southern Victoria, from the Otways to Wonthaggi to Toongabbie” said Friends of the Earth campaigns co-ordinator Cam Walker. “Clearly local farmers and residents do not want to see their lands and water sacrificed for short term fossil fuel development.”

We'll be kicking off the evening at 6, but feel free to come early and settle in. As well as seeing the film, there will be a discussion with Cam Walker (FoE), Quit Coal activists and a BZE contingent.

A $5 donation is suggested to cover costs, but we welcome everyone regardless of their ability to pay.

As always there will be tea and snacks provided. For more information contact Josh Brown on 0416 968 060 or josh.brown@beyondzeroemissions.org
