The Stringer: Understanding the abominable jail & suicide rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders
http://thestringer.com.au/understanding-the-abominable-jail-suicide-rate...
29 Jul 15: "The record-high suicide rates among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders are the result of the racist policies of one government after another. Government after government have degraded the majority of their communities to the most abominable social health quotients. They have denied Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities an equivalency of social wealth enjoyed by non-Aboriginal communities. They should have been entitled to this equivalent social wealth with which to navigate two cultural settings without impost. In trying to understand the majority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suicides we must shift from focusing per se on the individual and instead focus on the circumstances. ... The Stringer: An eleven year old suicides, nine months later his mother takes her life - this nation’s worst racism
http://thestringer.com.au/an-eleven-year-old-suicides-nine-months-later-...
31 Jul 15: "An eleven year child died last year, but by suicide. Nine months later, only days ago, his 37 year old mother took her life. In the last year I have had to look into the eyes of parents who have buried a child aged 11 years, 12 years, 13 years, 14 years, 15 years, 16 years and 17 years. We were not put on this earth to bury our children, but we do. This tragedy and the underlying issues are the pressing issue of our time and they must become the most pressing priority of every government. ... The Stringer: Inequality and racism are the offspring of exploitation
http://thestringer.com.au/inequality-and-racism-are-the-offspring-of-exp...
30 Jul 15: " ... Concepts of ‘inferiority’ and ‘racial supremacy’ are attributions originating out of the exclusive pursuit to exploit human beings, whether as chattel or whether to dispossess them. To achieve these ends the exploiters have disguised their actions with false concepts intended only to justify the oppression and disenfranchisement of people. These concepts were sold so powerfully and wholesale that even the most learned individuals of their time justified slavery and racism while the more ignorant developed cultish behaviours around these presumptions. ... The Stringer: It’s 'Homelessness Week' but who will house our toddlers, the babies?
http://thestringer.com.au/its-homelessness-week-but-who-will-house-our-t...
2 Aug 15: "The calendar event, Homeless Week, is upon us this week and quite a few parliamentarians and mayoral types will mix it with the big end of town and the homelessness sector at various red ribbon events. But nowhere in sight will there be the homeless. We will not hear from the homeless. These political figures who will strut their stuff, will fill the VIP seats at breakfasts, luncheons and auditoriums are the same politicians who spend the rest of the year pretty much avoiding the homeless issue. Some of them are responsible for inflicting acute further hardships on the homeless, with their hand in policies that ‘move-on’ the homeless, that effectively criminalise them, that forever neglect them and even further victimise them. ...
