Erik Carson, Platform News: Fudging the Numbers: Indigenous Suicide
http://www.platformnews.com.au/newsblog/fudging-the-numbers-indigenous-s...
13 Jul 15: "Consider this: if Australia’s indigenous people were ranked separately on WHO’s suicide ranking, they would be the 2nd worst in the world with 42 suicides per 100,000 people per year – just below Guyana, a country with 0.5% of Australia’s GDP. In some regions of Australia (Northern Territory, the Kimberley & far north Queensland), the rate of suicide in indigenous people is above 70 per 100,000 per year. ... [Gerry Georgatos] has argued Australia has an entrenched humanitarian crisis, with horrific suicide rates in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders that rank among the highest in the world. He has found that the reported suicide rate in indigenous people is much worse - in fact twice as worse than we are being told. ... "

5 Mar 15: "According to the the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the only jurisdiction in Australia to record an increase in the rate of suicide between 2006 to 2010 was Western Australia. The WA State Government may argue they have lowered suicide rates, but impartial analysis over the long term show in fact they are increasing. ...  A disproportionate number of the suicides occurred in the Kimberley – particularly in and around Fitzroy Crossings, Mowanjum and Balgo. Suicide is the number one cause of death in Australia for males who are aged 14 to 50 years. More lives are lost this way nationally than are lost to any other tragedy - including road fatalities. ... "
