27 Apr 15: "Police prevented a black ex-serviceman from joining the main Anzac parade in Canberra, because he was marching to acknowledge his people's war dead. An Aboriginal ex-serviceman who’s great uncle was the inspiration for the famous poem ‘Coloured Diggers’ was told “this day is not for you”, threatened with arrest and refused permission to march with his non-Indigenous colleagues after joining a procession to mark the ‘undeclared Frontier Wars’ intended to shadow the official ANZAC day march in Canberra. ... Indigenous and non-Indigenous activists attempted to march at the tail of the Anzac Day ceremonial parade in Canberra. They wanted to commemorate the Frontier Wars - the violence between colonial settlers and Indigenous people in Australia - and planned to lay a wreath at the war memorial. ... An NITV and SBS news journalist, Myles Morgan, filmed the event: 'It was planned to be a peaceful demonstration ... There was a scuffle with police in which a senior officer pulled out and motioned to use his taser. After, police [demanded that I hand over] my camera.' 27 Apr 15: "It was meant to be a day of respect and remembrance... but police and Aboriginal activists were involved in a violent scuffle at the centre of Anzac commemorations. With the scuffle over, police threatened to seize a NITV News camera - saying the vision was now evidence. In the previous four years, the War Memorial had refused to allow the party to march officially. The Frontier Wars commemorators had marched anyway, unofficially on the end of the official march. I was amongst them this year and last year. ... "
