8 Dec 14: "Addressing the Minerals Summit in Darwin last week, Chief Minister Giles claimed that emotional protesters against mining need to be educated about the benefits of mining. His comments show his clear develop at any cost mentality and that he is not listening to Traditional Owners. ... The TOs of Boroloola have issued a well reasoned response, explaining to Giles that he is the one that needs to be educated about the dangers of mining. ... "

Eddie Mason, a Traditional Owner within the application area and vocal opponent of the oil and gas industry, addressed the meeting of about 300 people with his reasons why he is opposed to this type of development with statements such as, "It will wreck our land". ... "

As a part of this process the Taskforce initiated the massive 1100 page Land and Water Science Review managed by the CSIRO.
