Save The Deadlys

Betty Adams
Canberra, Australia

Gavin Jones created the Deadly Awards 20 years ago. It has brought together community members and celebrities from all over Australia and the World to celebrate in our Aboriginal and Islander culture and talent. It's a time of year when we as Indigenous people come together to say 'Hey, look at us! We're just as Deadly as you mob!' To showcase our art, singing, sport, community and our people. Please reinstate the funding for the 2014 Deadly Awards, even if it's the final one... So we can say a big thank you to Gavin for all the amazing years and a goodbye to an event that we all hold dear to our hearts.

Reinstate the Deadly Awards in honour of Gavin Jones.

One week after the celebration of everything Aboriginal and Islander for NAIDOC it was announced that funding was cut to the all things Vibe, including the Deadly Awards. Soon after, Gavin Jones- founder of the Deadly Awards was found dead at his home in Goulburn.

In honour of Gavin and his hard work in raising the profile of many of Australia's talent and all of our community please reinstate funding for one final Deadly Awards, the 20th anniversary, where we can all come together in one final tribute to a man that brought us such happiness and an event that highlights our culture.

For a government in high praise of the recognise campaign, we implore you to act to recognise Gavin Jones and his significant contribution to reconciliation through the creation and implementation of The Deadly Awards

Sincerely,
