A family of Sri Lanken refugees who were detained for four years have been released after ASIO overturned their status as a security risk. This has brought in to question the processing policies that allowed them to be wrongfully held for so long.
Under the current procedures, asylum seekers can be detained without a proper trial and without so much as being informed of the reason for their detention. This is contrary to the fundamental human rights of all Australian citizens. In light of more and more cases being reviewed, refugee advocates are calling attention to these major policy flaws.
In a report offered to 270 community and Indigenous radio stations you'll hear from Daniel Webb, senior lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre; Adam Stone, lead Senate candidate, Queensland Greens; Pamela Curr of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
