URGENT ACTION

Bushmen under eviction threat

The Botswana authorities are planning to evict Bushmen of Ranyane community from their land, in order to get them out of a so-called 'wildlife corridor' between the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The evictions are scheduled for Tuesday 28th May.

Please email President Khama and ask him not to go ahead with this plan.

If you'd like to send an email but don't have much time, click here to send a pre-written message.

If you have five minutes, please write your own message. This is much more powerful.

Here are some things you can mention:

  • Ranyane residents have been told to leave or face forced evictions by government authorities
  • Evictions are reportedly to make way for a 'wildlife corridor'
  • Forced relocation of Bushmen from their ancestral land has been ruled as ‘unlawful and unconstitutional’ by Botswana’s High Court
  • Urge the President to immediately investigate the matter and ensure that no Bushmen are evicted against their will

You can address your email to:

....a legacy of British colonialism.

An African friend of mine told me that the worst outcome of colonialism was "that they poisoned our minds".

How right he was.

This brutality just so rich white people and Arabs can hunt big game for big bucks.

Shame, shame, shame.....
