AFL Pride

We're slowly but surely making progress with our campaign to fight homophobia in the AFL.

Late last year the The Age reported the AFL was considering a Gay Pride match between last years Grand Finalists -- Hawthorn and Sydney.

I also had the opportunity to tell my story at the training camp for this years AFL draftees, and talk to them about the importance of fighting homophobia in the game.

But today we're taking another big step at the 18th Victorian Pride March.

I'm honoured to be leading the Pride March today as an out and proud Aussie Rules footballer. But the real heroes of this story are my straight teammates from Yarra Glen who will be marching with me.

And for the first time (and as reported in The Sunday Age today), we'll be joined by AFL players and straight allies Brock McLean and Daniel Jackson who are the first to have publicly backed our calls for the AFL to do more to tackle homophobia.

If you're in Melbourne, I'd really love it if you could join and support the parade with me.

If you can't make it, then make sure you tune into JOY 949 for live coverage of the event from 2:00pm.

Thank you again for your continued support and I will be sure to keep you in the loop as our campaign continues throughout 2013.

In solidarity,

Jason Ball
