I just spent the last week and a half in Tunisia, meeting with techies and human rights workers, many of whom live behind the firewall in the Middle East. As the director of Access' Tech Team, I'm convinced, now more than ever, that we need to create a platform to defend those on the front line fighting for freedom in their lives and their country.
Here's the plan: In 2013, we're creating a rapid-response system to quickly react to some of the greatest digital threats facing citizens in the most dangerous regions in the world. The best part is that we'll be basing this system in region, making it more responsive and effective.
Our plan is to set up a regional tech office, purchase computers and blackout-resistant tools to help empower activists, and hire local technical staff to get this digital security platform up and running. These resources will allow activists stay one step ahead in this dangerous cat-and-mouse game going on right now on the internet.
In order to do this, we're going to need your help. Donate $50, $25, or even $10 today by clicking the link below to establish a one-of-a-kind platform that will protect some of the most at-risk activists in the world. Even a little will help:

It was amazing, meeting with citizens from the region, and seeing how your work as part of Access' global movement has made an impact on their lives. After being over there and seeing what activists are up against, it's clear that they need this platform to protect themselves against repressive governments that wish to silence them.
We have big plans for the Middle East, and beyond, for 2013. If our first regional office and platform is successful, we can replicate it in other regions around the world. As governments and corporations try to expand their reach and establish pervasive surveillance states, we'll work together to fight back.
Think about it: This system can enable activists struggling against repressive governments, by rapidly responding to internet blackouts and providing tools and materials to distressed citizens behind the firewall. All in real time, all within region, all with local expertise.
Think of yourself as an angel investor in a project that is going to shift the frontlines of digital freedom for those on the ground whose rights are under constant assault.
