Belo Monte: Your profits are ruining our lives

Indigenous people struggling to save their home in the Amazon – please support their cause

Dear friends of the rainforest,

while the indigenous people alongside the river Xingu in the Amazon are struggling to save their home, European companies are pocketing more than a billion Euros right now in return for their contribution to the mega dam Belo Monte.

The companies are talking about producing clean energy, but nothing could be further from the truth. 373 square miles are planned to be flooded. The rotting plants would release enormous amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Up to 40,000 people could be displaced from their home.

Alarmingly, Belo Monte is not the only project of its kind. 150 further dams are planned in the Amazon area. And in all cases European corporations would like to get their piece of the cake.

Please ask the companies to back out of Belo Monte and to only participate in environmentally and socially friendly projects.

Take Action

Many thanks and best regards
