Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young will take part in a debate on the issue tonight, with Federal water Minister Tony Burke and Liberal Senator Simon Birmingham. NT Consultations Report 2011: By Quotations
http://stoptheintervention.org/uploads/files_to_download/concerned-Austr...
""NT Consultations Report 2011: By Quotations", published in February 2012, is an important sequel to the highly regarded "This Is What We Said" (February 2010) and "Walk With Us" (August 2011). Between June and August 2011 the Australian Government conducted Stronger Futures Consultations in Northern Territory communities with the stated purpose of finding out what worked and what didn’t work under the Northern Territory Emergency Response (NTER) - commonly called the Intervention - which started in 2007. This book is presented in a most accessible and attractive format with highlights of quotations taken from ten consultations which were independently recorded. Beautifully illustrated, this hard-backed book gives voice to the views of Aboriginal people living under the Intervention. ... " By Cathy Gill and Sabine Kacha

Green Left: Activists mount court challenge to Olympic Dam mine
http://www.greenleft.org.au/node/50674
14 Apr 12: "Whatever BHP Billiton wants to expand operations at its huge Olympic Dam copper, gold and uranium mine, Australian authorities are almost frantic to give it. Clear violations of environment laws are not even being allowed to stand in the way. But where governments have shirked their responsibilities, eco-activists have stepped up to defend the environment. On April 3 and 4 a federal court in Adelaide heard a challenge to the mine expansion. A ruling is expected in coming weeks. Prominent environmental campaigner Uncle Kevin Buzzacott, an elder of the Arabunna people of northern South Australia, lodged the challenge." By Renfrey Clarke, Adelaide

Green Left: Australia’s ugly history of nuclear racism
http://www.greenleft.org.au/node/50670
14 Apr 12: "The nuclear industry has been responsible for some of the crudest racism in Australia's history. This racism dates from the British nuclear bomb tests in the 1950s but it can still be seen today. The British government conducted 12 nuclear bomb tests in Australia in the 1950s, most of them at Maralinga in South Australia. Permission was not sought from affected Aboriginal groups such as the Pitjantjatjara, Yankunytjatjara, Tjarutja and Kokatha. Thousands of people were adversely affected and the impact on Aboriginal people was particularly profound." By Jim Green, national nuclear campaigner with Friends of the Earth Australia
