China's He Dexin elected chairman of the World Wind Energy Association

In 2010 China was the single largest driver for global wind energy development, every second wind turbine added anywhere in the world was installed there.

Cairo/Bonn (WWEA) – The General Assembly of the World Wind Energy Association has elected Dr. He Dexin, Chairman of the Chinese Wind Energy Association, as new WWEA President. Former President Dr. Anil Kane was appointed as President Emeritus.

After his election, Dr. He thanked his predecessor Anil Kane for the important and successful work that he had done for WWEA during the past six years.

Dr. He outlined where he sees the main working areas for WWEA: "WWEA will especially continue to enhance the cooperation between developing and developed countries.

"There is an urgent need to focus especially on the promotion of wind energy in the developing countries. Countries like my home country China have the responsibility to continue their leading role in wind energy, in order to support the global transformation towards a sustainable energy supply.

"Another important focus will be on the promotion of wind energy integration through smart grids and distributed generation."

Jami Hossain, India, was elected as WWEA Treasurer.

Prof. Dr. Erico Spinadel, Argentina, was appointed as Honorary Vice President.
