'Keep the Kimberley' - rally at State Library, Melbourne, 14 August 2011

Organisers estimated up to a thousand people answered the call for Melbourne solidarity with the campaign to stop industrialisation of the still-pristine Kimberley - many of them wearing red 'to represent the Pindan (red dirt) of the region's remarkable terrain, the blood of this country'.

The callout was posted to this site:

Help stop the Gas Plant at Walmadan (James Price Point) and protect the Kimberley!

SHANE HOWARD, DAN SULTAN, Liz Stringer and Tanya Ransom will be performing, along with speeches by Neil Mackenzie (Traditional Owner), Kevin Blatchford (Save The Kimberley) and Glen Klatovsky (The Wilderness Society).

There will be petitions circulating to stop all present and future projects intended for The Kimberley, aimed to be the largest indus...trialisation project in the world.

*COME DRESSED IN RED TO REPRESENT THE PINDAN (RED DIRT) OF THE REGION'S REMARKABLE TERRAIN, THE BLOOD OF THIS COUNTRY*

12pm is the Wurundjeri Welcome to Country followed by music performances, speeches and audio messages from John Butler, Xavier Rudd and Missy Higgins.
