Stop Uranium Mining in Australia Campaign @ the Channon market

The Be Clear, Not Nuclear crew landed up at the Channon market on Sunday 14th Aug with whistles, drums, samba bells and facepaint to send out the message: "NO" to uranium mining in Australia.

In keeping with the traditions of the Drum & Dance Circle everyone joined in to create the groove and keep the vibe alive and many decided to add their voice to keeping the tribe alive by signing the petition against uranium mining in Australia.

Sayachan was there to give many people a yellow nose, to keep them on their toes on the uranium issue.

Here's what you can do to help. You can do this from any country in the world.

You can copy, print, fill in and post this petition yourself to the Australian Prime Minister, at the address below.

Get active, not radioactive!

Petition Against Uranium Mining in Australia

The Hon Julia Gillard MP
Prime Minister
Parliament House
CANBERRA ACT 2600
Australia

Dear Prime Minister,

We are writing to you to express our deep concern about and opposition to uranium mining in Australia.

Australia produces over 20% of the world's uranium and exports this to other countries, including Japan.

The Fukushima nuclear meltdown and the continuing dangers of nuclear radiation from Japan should give us cause to pause and rethink this policy of mining for uranium.

Uranium is deadly. There is no safe way of handling this material. The uranium industry - from mining, to nuclear power stations, to nuclear weapons, to the problem of storing radioactive waste for thousands of years - is an unsafe and unsustainable industry from start to finish.

As a forward-thinking member of the international community, Australia has a responsibility to turn her back on the whole uranium industry and, instead, set her sights firmly on a sustainable energy future.

Please let us do the right thing with uranium: Leave it in the ground, like our elders have been saying.

Please let Australia set an example for the rest of the world to follow in supporting a safe and nurturing planet.

Thank you for showing true leadership by saying "No" to uranium mining and "Yes" to green, clean and safe energy.
