Abbott flies into heart of intervention debate in Alice Springs

Larissa Behrendt: Lies, damn lies, and The Australian’s statistics

What a rightwing propaganda rag "The Australian" is.

In his efforts to support Abbott, Shanahan refers to " key traditional
Aboriginal leaders" and " indigenous leaders who support the intervention"
that Abbott is talking to , as opposed to '' urban elite Aboriginal
activists who oppose it, including law professor Larissa Behrendt".

Talk about bias and framing an argument.

Laurie.

They've been at it without shame for some weeks now, Laurie. They've been
fomenting and fanning the flames of disagreement, deepening divisions and
'reporting' what they insinuated as fact. It has been disgusting to watch.
Unfortunately, it seems to have been successful.

Trudy

Yes Trudy, it has been a disgraceful display of propaganda. I'm hoping that they are becoming so blatant with their biases that people will begin turning off and rejecting their messages. Probably faint hope.

Surely that Murdoch favourite Abbott has become the village idiot. Did you see his rubbish along the lines of " the carbon tax will turn Australia into an economic wasteland" yesterday.? Now even the most rabid rightwinger would have to doubletake on "economic wasteland", considering the Australian dollar has never been stronger, or are we so dumbed down that Chicken Little Tony is still being taken seriously?

Laurie

If we had a halfway professional media, he would be forced to support his outlandish statements. Lindsay Tanner made some telling points re the way the media is dictating the behaviour of politicians on 7.30 last night.

Gillard's visit to Murdoch while in the US confirmed once again that we are not a democracy but a system where politicians seek the patronage of the rich and powerful to prosper.

They have become something of court jesters to the real rulers.

Laurie.

He should be forced to watch himself spouting such nonsense. With any luck he will become an embarrassment to the more intelligent of his party and sacked.

Although, at the moment, I don't think there is too much of a difference between him and Julia. They both don't have a clue. No grasp on human rights, compassion or good government.
