The New South Wales Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC) is proud to announce applications are now open for the 2011 NSWALC Education Endowment Fund.
NSWALC Chairwoman Bev Manton has encouraged all eligible Aboriginal applicants to apply for funding grants to assist in their education.
She said the grants are available for a broad range of educational and vocational opportunities from primary school assistance right through to tertiary level.
"I've long been an advocate of our mob getting a solid education, and NSWALC aims to assist Aboriginal Local Land Council members make the most of their opportunities.
"I've always said 'knowledge is power', and never has that adage been more apt than right now in 2010 and beyond.
"There's really no other option. Our people simply need to engage in the modern economy to survive and thrive. And having a strong educational foundation is a vital first step on the right path," she said.
"Through the $30 million dollar NSWALC Education Endowment Fund, we offer students of all ages a financial 'kick-start' in expanding their educational horizons.
"It's NSWALC's vision this leg-up will equate to higher earning capacity for Aboriginal people, shattering the inter-generational poverty many of our mob often find themselves trapped in.
"I'd encourage any Aboriginal land council member or their children to get onto the NSWALC Sholarship website http://www.scholarshipsalc.com.au and apply now.
"Education is a key factor in the well being of our people. Knowledge is power."
