ETU in Victoria cuts ties with the ALP

In a blow against the corrupt support of the Union movement for the now very much anti-worker ALP, the ETU Victorian Branch has severed ties with the party. It will no longer donate $80,000 a year to the ALP. This is entirely appropriate given the ALP keeping of ABCC and the fact that its Fair Work Act keeps so many provisions of Work Choices in tact. The action shows up so much of the rest of the Union movement, in particular the ACTU, who have sayed silent at best in the build to the election about the anti-worker policies of the ALP which are even more pronounced under the right wing leadership of Gillard

In connection with my reporting on the recent Aboriginal summit in Melbourne (see http://indymedia.org.au/2010/07/22/australia-a-crime-scene-since-white-i...), Len Cooper, the president of the communications division of the Communications, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU), told me in a telephone conversation that his section of the CEPU has also stopped funding the ALP, although remaining affiliated with it. - Diet Simon
