Warrnambool jumps racing protest 11th July, 2010

The Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses was there both to monitor the jumps races and to continue spreading the message that jumps racing must be banned. It received coverage in the Warrnambool Standard and made the news on WINTV in country Victoria. Many thanks to the 10 volunteers who gave up their Sunday to be there. 3 jumps races were run. There were no falls or deaths recorded. However, one horse, STOP THE TRAFFIC, was bleeding from both nostrils. Several others landed awkwardly.

It appears that the pace of recent races has been deliberately reduced in an effort to reduce the risk of injuries. A much higher percentage of horses have also failed to finish as jockeys pull up suspect horses. There have now been 10 jumps races in a row which have been run without a fall. Despite this, the key performance Indicators are still higher than that set by RVL in January.

Sadly on the 30th June, Yoshi Raaza, an experienced jumps horse was found to have broken bones in his pelvis after competing in a flat race in SA and was euthanised shortly afterwards. Since then, another 2 jumps horses , Mazzacano and Black And Bent have broken down and are unlikely to reappear for a very long time if at all.

It demonstrates that the victims of jumps racing extend way beyond the horses that are killed on track.

Thanks again to all our volunteers that give up their time for this worthwhile cause.

Our next demonstration will be back at Warrnambool on Sunday 1st August. Details below.

you people have no idea what you are talking about! Yoshi's death had nothing to do with jumps racing, it was an injury sustained while over the flat, so incorprating that into a jumps article is absolute rubbish. Black and Bent has an injury that will put him out for the rest of the season, but he did not break down and will be back...

The turn up at Warrnambool by your so-called "passionate and diehard" activists just shows that you people are all talk and no action. The 4 of you that turned up were greatly outnumbered by the large crowd that turned up to see a spectacular day of jumping with no incidents... Jumps racing will meet the KPI's after another two successful meets over the weekend... LONG LIVE JUMPS RACING!!!!!!
