We want you for the Talisman Saber 2009 Open Day!
Date Published:25/06/2009

Rockhampton Regional Council and the US and Australian forces engaged in Exercise Talisman Saber 2009 will hold an Open Day on Sunday, July 5 and everyone is invited.

With so much to do and see at the Open Day, be sure to come along to Riverside Park and Quay Street between Denham and William Streets, Rockhampton for all the action from 1pm to 6pm.

Mayor of Rockhampton Regional Council encouraged everyone to come along to the Talisman Saber 2009 Open Day, to enjoy the sights and sounds of this great family day out.

“I am sure our local families will enjoy all there is to do and see at the Open Day and that our community will again extend a warm welcome to the thousands of US and Australian troops who are involved in the Talisman Saber 2009 exercise,” Cr Carter said.

Don’t miss the displays of military equipment from 31/42 RQR and Defence Force Recruiting, 1 Brigade Equipment (Cannon and Armoured Personnel Carrier), 17 Brigade Equipment (Heavy Vehicles – Crane, Truck & Trailer etc), and the US HUMVEE.

Riverside Park is the place to be at 2.30pm to see the fly-past of a Caribou Aircraft (soon to be decommissioned) and then to experience an awesome F111 fly past and dump and burn at 5.30pm.

The Australian Army Band and US Marine Corps Pacific Forces Band will keep you entertained with a marching display and concerts during the day.

The kids will have a ball too, with a rock climbing wall and jumping castle to keep them entertained.

A variety of food and drinks will be available for sale from the Gracemere Lions Club, the CQ Military Museum Sausage Sizzle and a Military BBQ site.

Exercise Talisman Saber 2009 is conducted over several weeks in Shoalwater Bay, Townsville, Coral Sea and the Northern Territory. The purpose of the exercise is to conduct joint and combined exercises between the Royal Australian Navy, the Australian Army, and the Royal Australian Air Force in conjunction with US Forces.

Road closures will be in place affecting Quay Street from the corner of Denham Street to William Street roundabout, which will be closed from 8am – 8pm. A section of the Riverside Carpark will also be closed. The public is advised that cars left unattended in the closed section after 8am on Sunday, July 5 will be towed at the owner’s expense.

A gold coin entry will help Legacy.
