NITV News: AHC signs compromise deal over low-income housing at the Block
1 Sep 15: "The Aboriginal Housing Company (AHC) told NITV News it has signed a document worked on by Indigenous Affairs Minister Nigel Scullion and Redfern Aboriginal Tent Embassy's Jenny Munro to secure finances for low-income housing for Indigenous peoples at the Block in Redfern. This agreement guarantees that the AHC's Pemulwuy Project will build 62 affordable houses for low-income Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at the Block. 3 Sep 15: "A deal was finally struck last week between the Aboriginal Housing Company (AHC) and the Federal Government, which has allocated $5 million to fund the construction of 62 affordable Aboriginal dwellings on the site. The funding will allow the AHC to obtain a bank loan to meet the other $25 million required for the housing, which was previously reliant on the commercial redevelopment of AHC land. 2 Sep 15: "Aboriginal Tent Embassy residents at The Block in inner Sydney's Redfern say they will now start packing up and preparing to leave the site, given the Aboriginal Housing Company has "signed off" on a compromise deal brokered by the Federal Government. The board of the Aboriginal Housing Company (AHC) met yesterday and "agreed in principle" to the terms and conditions of the Government's $5 million funding offer. AHC chairwoman Alisi Tutuila said it meant 62 "affordable houses" for Indigenous families would be built at the same time as the rest of the commercial redevelopment of The Block. ...
