U.S. building case against Assange through Bradley Manning trial

In an ominous turn of events the pre-trial hearing of Bradley Manning is now being used to build a future case of espionage against Julian Assange. The military prosecution has now introduced evidence that supposedly not only directly links Julian Assange to Bradley Manning but that Assange directly "coached" Manning into how to obtain government documents. The evidence comes in the form of selected transcripts of supposed chat logs between the two men found on Manning's computers.

Australian solidarity actions for Bradley Manning - December 17th 2011

On December 17th 2011, Bradley Manning turned 24 and his pre-trial hearing began. Bradley has been charged with a variety of offences that related to the release of documents and evidence of war crimes by the U.S. to Wikileaks. On this day an international day of solidarity occured and a number of actions occured in Australia. In Brisbane musicians played in solidarity in the Brisbane Mall. In Sydney a daily vigil during the pre-trial has been organised by the Sydney Stop the War Coalition outside the U.S. Consulate General in Martin Place. In Adelaide a small group gathered to sing Bradley happy birthday and to hand out information on his trial. In London, Australian peace activist Ciaron O'Reilly was amongst solidarity protestors outside the U.S. Embassy. Meanwhile Australin journalist Julian Assange will have the next stage of his appeal against his extradition to Sweden heard on December 20th.

Sunday 20 March, 2011 was the global day of action in support of Bradley Manning, the young US armyman accused of leaking classified documents to Wikileaks. Despite the rain, Byron shire supporters of Bradley Manning sprouted like mushrooms in the most unlikely of places, including the Byron markets, the streets, the beaches and at shopping centres.

Melbourne vigil joins global day of solidarity for Bradley Manning

As part of the March 19-20th Global Day of Action in solidarity with Bradley Manning a small group of protestors gathered outside the U.S. Consulate in Melbourne. Similar vigils and protests occurred around the world with the primary rally occurring outside the brig in Quantico where Manning is being held in the U.S. Protestors expressed that if Bradley Manning is “guilty” of giving information to Wikileaks he is a hero not a criminal for revealing war crimes. The hypocrisy of the U.S. bombing Libya to support democracy whilst it tortures Bradley Manning was also pointed out.

Bradley Manning facing death penalty under new charge of "Aiding the enemy"

After seven months of additional investigation by the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command (USACIDC) and other investigative agencies, the U.S. Army charged Pvt. 1st Class Bradley E. Manning with 22 additional charges on March 2, 2011. Most significantly, the capital offense charge of aiding the enemy under UCMJ Article 104 was added. The Army claims that the prosecution will not recommend the death penalty; however, the Army’s Convening Authority, Maj. Gen. Karl R. Horst (Commanding General, U.S. Army Military District of Washington) will have the final say in the matter.

People again gathered in Melbourne to show their support for Wikileaks. The rally commenced at the Melbourne State Library with a variety of speakers including Adam Bandt (Greens Federal MP), Rob Stary( Assange's Lawyer in Australia) and Brian Boyd (Secretary Victorian Trades Hall).

US accused by Amnesty of inhumane treatment over Wikileaks soldier case

Amnesty International Press Release: 24 January 2011 - Amnesty International has urged the US authorities to alleviate the harsh pre-trial detention conditions of Bradley Manning, the soldier accused of leaking information to Wikileaks.

The US army private, 23, has been held for 23 hours a day in a sparsely furnished solitary cell and deprived of a pillow, sheets, and personal possessions since July 2010.

Australian Wikileaks founder targeted by the Pentagon

Since June 7th , U.S. Army Private Bradley Manning, has been in custody in Kuwait as he is investigated for releasing the footage of U.S. state terror in Iraq to Wikileaks entitled Collateral Murder . The Pentagon now apparently wants to find and question Australian Wikileaks founder Julian Asange over this and other documents Wikileaks may have. This is an outrageous attempt by the U.S.
